THE EPITHELIAL TISSUE
Part one
here are four basic types of tissue in the human body namely;
- Epithelial
- Muscular
- Nervous and
- Connective tissues
The epithelium is a tissue composed of one or more layer(s) of cells found lining basically the;
- Lumen of tubular structures
- Outer surface of the body
- Cavities of the body
Types of the epithelial tissue
The criterias for classifying the various types of the epithelium could be based on the;
- Number of layers
- Shape of the constituent cells
- Surface specialization
- Simple (unilayered) epithelium
- Stratified(multilayered/bilayered) epithelium
- Pseudostratified (unilayered) epithelium
- Squamous(simple/stratified)epithelium
- Cuboidal(simple/stratified) epithelium
- Columnar (simple/stratified)epithelium
- Transitional epithelium
- Ciliated epithelium
- Flagellated epithelium
- Stereociliated epithelium
- Epithelium with microvilli
