Boundaries of the popliteal fossa
The politeal fossa earlier said isn't just diamond shaped but has a quadrangular outtline(precisely the shape of a rhomboid). The popliteal fossa has the following boundaries;
- Upper lateral
- Upper medial
- Lower lateral
- Lower medial
1. The upper lateral boundary
Is formed by the biceps femoris muscle
2. The upper medial boundary
Is constituted by;
Semitendinous muscle (superficial)
Semimembranous muscle(deep)
3. The lower lateral boundary
Is formed by;
Lateral part of gastrocnemius mucle
